Chapter 22

he shrine was close to the school, it was only a five minute walk. But I got there within two minutes.

The trees around were getting dense but I saw the clearing up ahead. I could see the main entrance to the shrine’s yard. We used to come here to make wishes together.

I was panting by the time I reached the front and gave the heavy gates a push. It was locked. I swore and shook the gates.

It wouldn’t budge. Cursing, I jumped and struggled to haul myself over the top.

I dropped over on the other side, landing on my feet hard. My heels would be a bit sore. But I didn’t care.

I didn’t skip a beat, moving forward, as I looked towards the shrine, I saw someone there, sitting off to the side. I couldn’t tell who it was, as there were a few bushes in the way.

Was it the kidnapper? Or Aoi? Was it a trap? I rushed there, poised and ready for anything, uncertain what was to unfold.

My muscles tensed up. I felt adrenaline rushing through my body. My heart was pounding hard. I had no idea what I was up against. All I knew was that I needed her to be fine.
