“Moshi moshi?” I gingerly picked up my phone.

“Is this Narimiya-san?” I heard a gentle female voice over the line.

“Hai…”

“Good afternoon, I am calling from the hospital, regarding Uchida-san’s condition.”

For a moment, I held my breath. Had she woken up? In time for her birthday? Just like I prayed?

“Yes?”

There was a pause before she answered,
“Aoi-chan’s condition has become unstable and her heartbeat has just fallen drastically.”
